Sock Monkey (2016.034.1050)
Description
Rainbow sock monkey with a black “P” stitched onto the front. A message handwritten on the back in black marker says, “In loving memory Pulse shooting 6/12/16 / Orlando, FL.”
Historical Notes: The sock monkey was handmade by Marissa Rivera from rainbow socks she had purchased the day before the shooting. The sock monkey was the first ever made by Rivera who dedicated it to the Pulse shooting victims and dropped it off at the Dr. Phillips memorial site. Rivera is now making and selling original sock monkeys ranging in size, color and even species, such as cats and unicorns.
