Printed Letter (2016.034.1350)
Printed letter with a typed poem that says, “I lie awake thinking, what would I have done. Forty-nine fatalities and only one man had a gun? I lie awake thinking about that day, before the night. Just happy people getting ready, not knowing they have to fight. I lie awake thinking how you danced the night away. Birthday celebrations, laughter and graduation day. I lie awake thinking of people like Brenda Lee. A cancer survivor who took a bullet so her son could be set free. I lie awake thinking of how on that night we planned to go. However we stayed in and gained another night to show. I lie awake thinking of how you played dead. Just holding your breath, pretending, heart pounding, visions of red. I lie awake thinking of you hiding in the stall. Hearing groups of people being slaughter [sic] against the wall. I lie awake thinking of the love between Juan and Luis. A couple passed together within each other’s peace. I lie awake thinking of all you heroes that were there. The messages to your families I’m sure was hard to bare. I like awake and feel my PULSE as it starts to beat. You tried your best, you knocked us down but you did not defeat. BY: JOSHUA LAGOS.”
