Card (2016.034.0665)
Card made from printer paper with a heart drawn on the front and “#ORLANDOSTRONG,” in pen. The message on the inside says, “You don’t know me, and I don’t know you. I’ve heard only a few of your names, but only because they’ve been all over the news. I wish I would’ve known you, but I may have known people who’ve danced with you. Though I know almost nothing about you. I know I still feel pain everytime I think about you – more than the “pain” I feel thinking about other tradgeties [sic]. We don’t know each other, but I miss you. You were part of my city – my home, and my community. I pray that you did not die in vain and that something will be changed. However, all politics aside, good has come out of this; Orlando has grown stronger as a whole, and the LGBT community is being embraced with love. Pride has exploded! I know you are in a better place and you can dance care-free for an eternity. I never knew you, but from one gay to 49+ others and allies, I wish I had. I’m sorry this happened and I’m sorry I have nothing better to say. I will do my best to do my part in making sure you did not die for nothing. With love, Alex Young, 18 / #lovealwayswins.”
