Handwritten Note (2016.034.0865)
Handwritten note found with a yellow glass candleholder and a dried sage bundle (2016.034.0863). The note says, “None of you know me, but I know you. I know you as one of the 49 people who was killed in the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Now all I can do is visit a memorial, pray, and write you this letter. A letter no one, but me will ever read and I can only hope you can feel. You were loved. You are loved. And you didn’t deserve this. You deserved to live. To fall in love. To have babies and then one day watch your babies have babies. I am continuously reminded everyday that the world doesn’t stop turning. That everyone is still expected to go about their lives. But I can’t. I feel so hopeless and helpless just thinking about how hopeless and helpless you must have felt. How is the world still turning. How do people still want to get up everyday and go buy f***ing cupcakes. I work at a cupcake bakery btw. You wouldn’t know that, but now you do because something like this had to bring us together. A counselour just came by and asked if I needed to speak with someone because I’m sitting here crying as I write you this letter. I feel like a fraud. Like I’m taking away someone who actually knew you’s grief. But I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m so sorry we live in a world that let this happen to you. Forgive me. Forgive us. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. Rest easy and feel all of my love that I send to you. The weather is beautiful, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and you are here. You are with us all. All my love, Bri (heart) *And if anyone does read this, know that you are beautiful, loved, and worth the entire world.”
