Quilt (2017.061.0001)
White quilt with a heart in each block making a rainbow pattern and a rainbow border. The quilt is covered in handwritten signatures and messages.
Historical Notes: The day after the shooting, Orlando’s Modern Quilt Guild mobilized a call for quilts and blocks (pieces that make up a quilt) for the families affected. The following day, the national Modern Quilt Guild spread the word. Before long, nearly 1,800 quilts poured into Orlando from around the country and the world, and the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild set to work distributing them. Michele Kiger, a St. Petersburg , Florida quilter, made this quilt. When she finished it, she took it to several establishments around the city, gathering signatures and well-wishes. “All I can say is St. Pete loves you!” wrote Kiger. Representatives of the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild donated it to the One Orlando Collection on February 21st, 2017.
