Digital photograph of a framed document that provides a brief history of the San Bernardino comfort quilt and a letter to Mayor Teresa Jacobs from James Ramos, Chairman of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Photo donated by Orange County Government, Frank Weber.
Historical Notes: The quilt was created in 2001 by first-graders at St. Hilary Catholic School in Fairlawn, Ohio to comfort children at a school in Redbank, New Jersey who lost parents and neighbors after the September 11th attacks. Since then, the quilt has moved from community to community providing comfort to those who are suffering. The quilt has traveled to Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, San Bernardino and other communities that have been struck by tragedy.
