Rainbow Bracelet (Object 13)
Description
Rubber bracelets. The rainbow bracelet has “(heart) #HugsNotHate,” printed in red and the black bracelet has “#AmandaAlvearstrong #Pulse49,” printed in white.
Historical Notes: After his sister was killed in the Pulse nightclub shooting, Brian Alvear wanted to prove that humans are compassionate and started to spread love with hugs. He began hugging people at a gas station in Kathleen, Florida and the campaign grew from there, to the point where #HugsNotHate has been added to photos of people hugging internationally. Alvear’s friends and local businesses worked together to make bracelets that say “Alvear Strong,” and “#HugsNotHate,” to raise money for the Alvear family.
