Printed Poem (2016.034.0418)
Printed photocopy of a poem with an image of Lake Eola on the right side of the page. The poem is titled, “WE ARE ORLANDO” and reads, “Terrifying moments / Club goers thought it was a song / Bullets flying everywhere / Something so wrong. / They were there for a reason / Celebrating with pride / Lives cut short / Hard to ask why / Hiding in stalls / Praying they will be spared / An evil captor assaults / War he has declared / Randomly taken from us / Swiftly and with such hate / Motivated solely by evil / Their loved ones painstakingly wait / A community shattered / Grief and despair / Coming together in solidarity / Such pain we all must bear. / Vigils around the world / Sharing our compasion and pain / Candles signifying hope / Their lives not in vain / Love will overtake hate / We are Orlando, so strong / A world in mourning / Our pain may last long / Healing hearts / Remembering each precious sole [sic] / Taken from our community / Leaving us A God sized hole.”
